Photo Contest “Nature-protected Ukraine”

“Nature-protected Ukraine” is the contest devoted to the International Year of Biodiversity

The State Agency for Protected Areas of Ukraine, The UNDP/GEF Project "Strengthening governance and financial sustainability of the national protected area system in Ukraine" and the All Ukrainian NGO «Association of protected areas of Ukraine» launches the start of the photo contest “Nature-protected Ukraine”.

The goal of the contest is to draw public interest in protected areas of Ukraine, particularly in the meaning of recreation resources.  

The contest helps to promote green tourism for young people; in addition, it will involve community to make their own contribution into protection of Ukrainian nature.

The contest will remind public about importance of native nature conservation in the International Year of Biodiversity.  

Technical partner of the contest is the «Samsung Electronics Ukraine» Company.
Information partners are «Bigmir.net» portal, «Photographer» magazine, «Delo» newspaper.

The Contest last from April 15, 2010 to August 1, 2010

Prize fund

5 first places are expected after all.

4 prizes will be determined by jury, 1 prize will be given according to the results of users voting on Bigmir.net portal.

Rewards are prizes from the company «Samsung Electronics Ukraine», which is the partner of the contest.

The word “prize” means possibility to buy a product for 1 hryvna. Winners are not allowed to get prize in money equivalent. Winners will get honors certificate of UNDP, the Ministry for Environmental Protection of Ukraine, and the Association of protected areas of Ukraine.

Winners’ determination and procedure of rewarding will be set on September 2010 in Kyiv.

The best works will be presented within the photo exhibition “Nature-protected Ukraine”.

How to apply

1. Registration and downloading photo on Bigmir.net portal. After registration the work is examined for its conformity with demands of the contest; afterward, it will appear on the page of the site.

2. Photos can be delivered by electronic devices, e-mail or ordinary post.

3. Each work must be submitted with application form where participant’s name, surname, telephone, postal and electronic address are indicated; besides, information about the object, place and date of taking photo, its name, the name of protected area should be also included in the application form.

General requirements

1. Photos should represent the Nature Reserved Fund of Ukraine, though, must be taken in protected areas: nature and biosphere reserves, national nature parks, regional landscape parks, botanical gardens, dendroparks and nature monuments.

2. Photos must be taken in Ukraine, and should not be published earlier or participated in other contests.

3. The contest is available for people of every country who are coming on age of 18 with the exception of those who bare a relation to its organization.

4. Works must be delivered directly by the authors or their representatives. Participants should guarantee their property rights and excluded any legal complications connected with the photo utilizing. Participants are responsible for rights of the third persons.

5. If there is any person on the photo, works must be supported with his/her written agreement for its publication.

6. Each author is able to provide no more than 5 photos.

7. The contest is not commercial. It is open and free of charge.

8. Photos can be delivered from April 15, 2010 to August 1, 2010. The date is established by the date of downloading on Bigmir.net portal, the date of sending e-mail or the date on postal stamp.

9. Filled application for participation must be added to the photos.

 10. Photos for the contest must be digital, the size from 1 to 4 Mbt, JPEG format with resolution of no less  than 300 dpi. 

11. Only documentary photos will be taken for the contest. Artistic processing is prohibited, image editing is limited to slight clearing, contrast and brightness correction in graph editor.

12. Works for the contest will not be returned.

13. Organizers will get the right to use photos with non-commercial purpose within The UNDP-GEF Project "Strengthening governance and financial sustainability of the national protected area system in Ukraine", in mass-media for contest advertising, for printed informative materials, exhibitions.  Organizers are obliged to indicate the author’s name and the name of the photo while using.

14. Author’s agreement with the rules of the contest are provided automatically with his/her participation.

15. Picture will not be considered in the contest in following cases:

 - the work does not correspond requirements and demands mentioned above.

- application form is filled wrong

- the work is compiled with several frames.
